- Best time to visit: June to October for easier wildlife viewing; November to May for the best birdlife
- Getting there: About 2 hours by road from Arusha
Lake Manyara National Park sits below the Rift Valley escarpment and packs a surprising variety into a compact area: groundwater forest, acacia woodland, open floodplain and an alkaline lake. It is known for its birdlife and for lions that are sometimes seen resting in trees.
What to expect
- Large troops of baboons and blue monkeys in the forest
- Elephant, giraffe, buffalo, hippo and wildebeest
- Flamingos and other waterbirds, depending on the season and water level
- Dramatic views from the escarpment
Best time to visit
The dry season (June to October) makes wildlife easier to find, and the wetter months bring migrant birds.
